“Wow, what a ride! There was 1000 riders all dressed in their race gear and it was exciting just being there. Waiting at the start and seeing the helicopter swoop down after the national anthem sent goose bumps down my back. The start for the first 3km was slow, but the riders were talking, everyone was happy and then the pace car left. Holy smokes, the pace was intense. I knew I should have started in the front group because as soon as the pace car left, the first group was gone. I tucked into the tri position and tried to catch them peddling at 50kph. I thought they were within reach, but I just couldn’t hold it. They were gone, I was spent and the problem was that I had another 140km to go.
The weather was perfect, the volunteers were happy and helpful, and the aid stations had everything a rider could need. The directions throughout the ride were clear and overall the event was a time to remember with a smile.” ~ Andrew Westlund, Apex Wireless
